I am Dylan Viola, a web developer based out of Brooklyn.

I partner with design and strategy experts to build accessible, beautiful, and effective websites.

Hyperakt

I have worked for many years as a part of the talented team at Hyperakt building websites, data visualizations, publishing tools, and more for impactful non-profits. One of my favorite projects has been reimagining Hyperakt's own website.

Raikes Foundation

The Raikes Foundation invests in systems level change in the areas of Education, Housing Stability for Youth, Impact-Driven Philanthropy, and Equity & Democracy. As a part of the team at Ghost Note I built their website using Next and Craft CMS. It features interesting geometric design elements, scroll based animations, and a Salesforce integrated Grants database.

Pete For America: Design Toolkit

As a part of the team at Hyperakt I helped build several web apps for Pete's 2020 presidential campaign. The design toolkit is an interactive brand guide that came together really quickly as Pete's brand was taking shape through a great collaboration amongst our whole studio.

NYCJA

NYCJA interviews every justice involved person in New York City. As part of the team at Hyperakt, I rebuilt CJA's website using Craft CMS and React. In the years since the initial rebrand, we have developed the NYC Pretrial Data dashboards, interactive tools that provide data on arrests and release in NYC.

Planthouse Studio

Planthouse Studio is a mighty design studio that makes bold work. In addition to coding their website, I have worked as a part of their team building digital experiences for electic clients.

Generator Z

Generator Z is an ideas lab for teens and afterschool providers to reimagine the future of afterschool. As a part of the team at Hyperakt, I helped to build a unique informational site as well as frontend and backend systems for a thousand teens and hundreds of afterschool providers to share stories, propose grants, gather feedback, and implement their afterschool ideas.

Ensure A Seal

Ensure A Seal is an innovative supplier and consultant for mausoleum products. I teamed up with designer Logan Emser to redesign and rebuild their website.

Girls Who Code

Girls Who Code is on a mission to close the gender gap in technology and to change the image of what a programmer looks like and does. Working at Hyperakt, I built a brand new website using React and Craft CMS.

America Off Balance: Federal Budget Calculator

As a part of Hyperakt, I worked with the Policy Ed team at Hoover Institution to conceive, design, and build America Off Balance. I coded the Federal Budget Calculator using React, Redux, and Firebase. Fix The Budget is an interactive model of the US Federal budget, allowing users to create their own budget policies and project how they may affect long term US debt.

On The Grid

On the Grid is a collection of 534 neighborhood guides lovingly curated by local creatives in 114 cities around the world. The guide was taking off and the CMS couldn't scale to meet the needs of it's growing community of authors. I worked on rebuilding the entire backend and frontend of the site, porting all the content, and collaborated with our community coordinator to streamline the content authoring process for curators.

The Refugee Project

The Refugee Project, by Hyperakt and Ekene Ijeoma, visualizes UNHCR refugee data and UN population data to tell the stories of refugee movements since 1975. I have helped maintain and improve The Refugee Project as a part of Hyperakt since 2016. I set up a system for uploading new data every year and have helped to redesign and rebuild parts of the front end interface. I built a content management system for the atlas's stories and I worked with UNHCR IT to set up a location and time based news feed which can be accessed from within the map.

The Shivers: Forever Is A Word

To commemorate the release of The Shivers album Forever Is A Word, Eric Fenny, Katie Treidl and I teamed up to film visual companions to each of the 12 tracks. Eric led site design and I took on coding. This is one of my earliest web projects.
